How To Keep Your Skin Healthy During The Winter Months

As soon as the cold of winter sets in, people start to bundle up to stay warm. Despite the addition of several layers to increase our body temperature, the skin still has to deal with the change in temperature and level of humidity. During the winter months, people notice that their skin becomes dry easily and this can become painful when it isn’t treated soon.

Here are some skin care tips from beauty guru, Anne Welsh that will save your skin from damage when the temperatures drop in winter:

Tip 1: Use Lukewarm Water

A hot bath or shower during winter feels wonderful as it warms the body up quickly. Although it might feel good, the hot water also strips the skin from its natural oils leaving it dry. Instead of using hot water, especially when washing the hands or face, stick to lukewarm water. This will prevent your skin from becoming too dry without running them in freezing water.

Tip 2: Moisturise Right Away!

The skin will need extra moisturising during the colder seasons. A great way to seal in the moisture after a bath is to apply moisturiser while the skin is still damp. Always keep a bottle of your favourite moisturiser within reach from the shower, tub, or sink so you can liberally apply it as soon as possible.

Tip 3: Layers Of Protection

Although it is second nature to grab your scarf, gloves, and earmuffs before leaving the house when there is snow, cold winds, and even rain in the winter, it is never a good idea to skip the sunscreen. While you might not feel the same intense sun damage during winter, the UV rays from the sun can still cause the same amount of damage to unprotected skin, especially on the exposed areas.

Tip 4: Use A Humidifier

The heating system at home or at the office can be running the whole day, this will result in dry air that is damaging to the skin. A humidifier puts all the moisture back into the air which will prevent skin from drying.

Tip 5: Overnight Moisturising Is A Must

The feet, knees, elbows, and hands are parts of the body that are dryer than the rest as they lose moisture faster. Before going to bed at night, slather these areas with a deep moisturiser and use cotton socks and gloves to seal all that moisture until morning. This is a very simple trick to get smoother feet and hands while also staying warm and toasty at night.

Tip 6: Exfoliate Regularly

Aside from keeping our skin moisturised during the winter, it is also great to slough off the dead skin cells to allow the younger skin to grow as they are smoother and softer to the touch.

Tip 7: Eat And Drink Healthy

During winter, add food that is high in water to your diet to keep yourself hydrated. If you are well hydrated from the inside, your skin will glow with health and beauty as well.
