The Best Sand Blasting Alternative for Multiple Applications

Blast cleaning is an alternative method of cleaning in many applications. It relies mainly on mechanical forces and requires the delivery of some blasting agent on a surface at a high velocity. Selection of blasting material depends largely on the type of surface that requires cleaning, and includes wire clippings, ice, baking soda, silicon carbide, and sand among others.

This new cleaning method uses CO2 pellets (dry ice). Upon making contact with the surface, the dry ice pellets sublimate directly from solid to vapor, making way for a clean, dry and erosion free surface. It is a non-abrasive method and can remove contaminants quickly without damaging the machine parts such as panels, switches, wiring, etc. Dry ice blasting does not require drying time. Some of the applications in which dry ice blasting finds its most common use include adhesive removal, dyes cleaning, fire restoration, and mold removal, along with many others.

Also known as abrasive sand blasting this method of cleaning refers to propelling abrasive material against a surface. It involves projection of stream at a high-speed through a jet nozzle with the help of pressurized air, and is good enough to leave the surface clean, dry, and ready for applying new coating. This method is for cleaning processes that focus on removing coatings, old paintings, debris, rusts, grime, and several other contaminants from the surfaces. The high-speed projection of abrasives leads to creation of fine dust particles, which can cause silicosis, a dreaded lung disease. Due to this harmful side effect, UK has banned the use of most common types of sands for abrasive blasting.

Different techniques of blast cleaning are preferred for the restoration purpose depending on the applications. Overall, these methods find their use in a range of applications such as to clean the dirt from a surface or to remove burrs left behind during the processing of a material. Thesandblaster methods are also useful in the finishing of a material, patio cleaning, making an age-old stonework look afresh via grit blasting,

If left outdoors, the effects of the sun's rays will 'bleach out' the timber's natural color, gradually turning it a soft silvery gray patina color. This silvery gray 'patina' which develops over time gives teak furniture a distinctive appearance. The silver gray color resulting from this natural aging process is considered by many to be very attractive and allows the furniture to blend in well with many outdoor environments. Teak furniture left in this state is easily maintained and needs no treatment whatsoever to give many years of service and this is about as easy as outdoor furniture maintenance can get!

If your teak furniture requires cleaning or if you want to remove the gray, this can be done with a normal household bristle brush and some warm mildly soapy (clear dish soap) water. Wash down afterwards with clean water. There are also many proprietary products on the market which can also be used to clean off various stubborn deposits and accumulated dirt and stains.
