Learning to do the Ballroom Dance

All the tips and tricks you need to master the art of ballroom dancing

As a child I always would trip and fall over whenever someone asked me to do a dance. For a long time it seemed that I had two left feet and my body movements were extremely uncoordinated as well. This continued till I hit puberty and then suddenly it was time for the annual prom. I remember it being extremely awkward and try as I might I just could not get to grip with ballroom dancing.

This was nearly 12 years ago and I still remember the awkward gangly teen that had trouble keeping up with a girl who was half his size. A few months back I decided to get married and I did not want a repeat of my prom performance on my wedding dance and hence I decided to do the following things:

I first went to the internet and did a lot of research about proper poses and exercises that improve my posture, and then I set about watching a ton of ballroom dancing videos. One thing that is common in almost all sorts of dances is the fact that they are in some way an extremely rudimentary version of ballet. Hence the next thing I did was try extremely simple ballet poses for a week or so. Sure I did fall down a lot, and at times my joints ached from standing on my tiptoes for a long amount of time, but at the end of day 3 I saw progress, I could now complete the most simple of poses without making a fool of myself. I decided to go one better this time around and seek professional help. I went ahead with the notion due to the fact that I had somewhat mastered the basics and now I would fine tune my technique to see if I could really dance the way I wanted to at my wedding. I searched and searched for a suitable place which would give me a ballroom dance lesson which would further improve upon my basics. After much trial and error I settled on Dance Passion Studios, as it seemed to have the best value for money to go along with highly qualified trainers. The first week I seemed to go back to my extremely uncoordinated self, but as the weeks went by I started to get the hang of things and I kept getting better at it. At my wedding I was able to perform fairly decently on the dance floor much to the surprise of my wife. So if you have problems dancing don’t fret it just takes some hard work, patience, and proper guidance.
